Ah the Joy of Brunei

This is a bit of a catch up as we haven't been blogging as often as we should. Any how, firstly, in the MOE wisdom here they have decided to change the official holidays in October. No reason given but they have had the ASEAN conference here in April and they couldn't handle the traffic on the roads. Roads were closed and it was just an embarrassment for organisers I feel with the chaos. So the rumour is the MOE has been asked/ told to change the dates so less cars on the road. The real downside of this is the fact we had booked airline tickets to KL. Now I cant go but Amanda and the boys will be. Interesting how they can do this without apologising properly. Just a different mindset!

The boys last week had their sports day, it was a lot better this year where sports were actually done as opposed to silly stupid games. Although the PE teacher is rubbish at least they didn't manage to stuff this up. Liam did well 1st in 200m, 2nd in 100m and 3rd in 60m. Only 3 boys Liam, Canute and Finn got in the placings, might be a good FOBISSEA team. Jordy did his best and I must admit he is working hard to do his best for Phuket in the sports tournament. He didn't do any track events but did do well in the field events.

I recently had the opportunity to go to a spelling competition in Brunei. You have no idea how incompetent the organisers were. First problem, the words to be used were taken outside so kids could see them about 200 of them with 30 words to be used. Students had 10minutes to see these. Unfortunately the words were spelt wrong, at a rough guess 40%. Surely it is not to hard to google British spellings of words. It wasn't just the fact they sometimes had American spellings but they left out letters, put in wrong ones and even included some extra letters. Secondly they wanted a local to pronounce the words which I thought was fair enough, but the annoucner could not pronounce the words accurately where our local students struggled to understand her. A complete shambles. Anyway, my student from my Year 7 class got into the semi final next week so hopefully she does well.

Not long till Amanda and the boys are off to Phuket then we are all off to Bangkok, cant wait. There is the matter of finishing my post grad course first. Pretty happy with three of my assignments so far grades of A+, A+, and A so hopefully they can keep coming like that,
